How you can help

Smile Through Sport is a charity relying on volunteers, donations and local support. There are many ways you can get involved and support our work across the North East.

Smile Through Sport is a registered charity working within the North East region. Our work relies solely on donations and without the support of our donors we would be unable to continue our work.

Our current projects include:

  • Delivering sport and physical activities in community centres and residential homes to people who have never been able to be active before due to their disability

  • Hosting the biggest Boccia open in England for those with complex physical and learning disabilities

  • Creating activities, sessions and events for disabled people to be active and social with their peers

By donating to Smile Through Sport you are allowing us to continue our work and enabling disabled people to be active and part of a supportive community.

Volunteer

Volunteers allow us to deliver more sessions in more places which ultimately enables disabled people to become active and part of a supportive community. We are always keen to hear from people who would like to volunteer with us.

Our volunteer roles:

  • Coaching assistant

This role is for those with an interest or experience in delivering sporting activity. You do not need to have formal qualifications for this role. It will be ideally suited to those studying sport leadership, coaching or development courses.

  • Sessional assistant

Ideal for those with care experience. These volunteers help to support our delivery staff to engage people with disabilities in activity. You will be asked to help make sure everyone can be included in the activities and enabling them to participate.

  • Admin assistant

With such a small office-based team we are always looking for help in the office. Anyone who can help us with admin, cleaning and fundraising tasks is welcome to get in touch. Ideal for those who have recently retired and are looking for something new.

All of our volunteers receive the following benefits:

  • Full training and support to complete the volunteering role
  • Access to carer development and training opportunities
  • A volunteer uniform
  • Invitations to staff and volunteer socials
  • The ability to change a disabled persons life!
